How to apply for heating assistance

Connecticut residents may be eligible to receive help from the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program if they either receive benefits from the Department of Social Services ― such as SNAP, Supplemental Security Income, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families ― or have a household income below set levels.

For example, the limit is $39,761 for a household of one person, $51,996 for two, $64,230 for three, $76,465 for four, and $88,699 for five. Depending on one’s situation, benefits toward a heating bill range from $250 to $600, paid to a utility company or fuel supplier.

People can apply online at portal.ct.gov/heatinghelp, or for those living in southeastern Connecticut, call Thames Valley Council for Community Action (TVCCA) at (860) 425-6681.

The income limits are higher for Operation Fuel: For families of one to five people, the respective limits are $48,783.93, $63,794.37, $78,804.81, $93,815.25, and $108,825.69. People can apply online at operationfuel.org/gethelp or at the local “Fuel Bank,” which is also TVCCA, at 83 Huntington St. in New London.

Applications for Operation Fuel close this Friday.
