NFA, teachers union agree to three-year pact

Norwich ― Norwich Free Academy and the academy’s teachers’ union have agreed on a new three-year contract starting in July 2023 with raises of about 4% per year.

The Norwich Free Academy Board of Trustees approved the agreement last week with the Education Association, Norwich Free Academy, (EANFA).

The contract, which runs from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026, provides an overall salary increase of 11.95%, with raises of 3.8% in year one, 4% in year two and 4.15% in the final year.

The existing contract expires June 30, 2023.

“The success of our students starts with our dedicated faculty,” said DeVol Joyner, chairman of the NFA Board of Trustees in a news release announcing the agreement. “This agreement, reached after thoughtful deliberations, allows our faculty to continue their focus of providing outstanding learning opportunities every day for our students.”

EANFA union president Allison Kane said in the news release that she is grateful to her union members, especially those who worked on the negotiations committee, and to NFA administrators for working together to reach the agreement.

“This new contract is the result of hard work by both sides to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” Kane, a history teacher, said in the news release.

“Those that should feel best about this agreement are our students,” said Head of School Dr. Brian Kelly in the release. “They are the true ‘winner’ during this process, as they will continue to benefit from the commitment and dedication of our faculty.”
