Six artists selected to paint waste compactors around New London

New London ― The New London Cultural District has selected six artists to paint city waste compactors.

The selected artists were Kern Bruce, Katie Fogg, Patrick Regan, Rita Rivera, Chance Stewart and Samson Tonton. Each winner received a $1,000 stipend for their work.

The winners’ work will be displayed on the city’s new Big Belly solar-powered waste and recycling compactors to be installed around the downtown and other parts of New London starting in January.

“We had a wide range of artists of all genres and ages submit to this exciting project, which will add a new sense of vibrancy to our downtown,” said Cultural District Commission Chair Rich Martin in the release. “We look forward to further activating our always dynamic artist community with future programs to tap into their talents and highlight their work.”

The new bins were made possible with investment from the City of New London and the City Center District in partnership with the Cultural District Commission.
