    DOT invites public to information meetings on rail and transit feasibility study

    The state Department of Transportation is holding a series of public information meetings for the Eastern Connecticut Corridor Rail and Transit Feasibility Study, which is evaluating the viability of additional public transportation in the region, according to a news release.

    The meetings, listed below, will introduce the study and provide an opportunity for people to offer comments and ask questions:

    Dec. 12, 6-7:30 p.m. at Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School, 25 Mahan Drive, Norwich, and streamed live on the DOT's YouTube channel

    Dec. 15, noon-1:30 p.m. at the Submarine Force Library and Museum, 1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton, and streamed live on YouTube. Attendees will have free access to tour the library and museum, and the Nautilus Submarine after the meeting.

    The venues are ADA accessible and accessible by buses.

    There will also be a virtual meeting on Dec. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. on Zoom and YouTube Live. Details on how to join the meeting can be found at: https://portal.ct.gov/DOT/PP_Bureau/ECRTS-Public-Meetings.

    The study will investigate the feasibility of: extending Shore Line East into Rhode Island, establishing new passenger rail service from New London to Norwich, establishing a new passenger train station in Groton and Stonington Borough; and extending ground transportation systems in the eastern region and provide interconnectivity between such systems and rail lines.
