    Waterford hires new planning director

Waterford ― Jon Mullen has been hired to be the town’s new planning director, the first selectman’s office announced in a news release.

Mullen worked for the City of Hartford from 2006 to 2016 as a senior and principal planner, and more recently, spent the last six years as the planner for Glastonbury.

Mullen played key roles in the development of the 10-Year Plan of Conservation and Development in both Hartford and Glastonbury and also assisted in the development of the Affordable Housing Plan for Glastonbury, the release said.

Throughout his career, Mullen has helped guide large corporations, regional developers, local business owners, and residents through the municipal permit approval process.

Mullen, a lifelong Waterford resident, grew up in Ridgewood Park in Waterford and graduated from Waterford High School in 1995. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Geography. He earned his masters degree in Geography with a focus on planning and geographic information systems in 2004.

Mullen lives in Waterford with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue my planning career in my hometown. I look forward to the opportunities ahead and to working for the residents of Waterford,” Mullen said in the release.

“We are fortunate to have Jon as Waterford’s next Director of Planning. He is well respected in the state and by growing up and now raising a family in Waterford, he will be a great addition to our experienced and talented planning and permitting team,” First Selectman Rob Brule said in the release.
