Old Lyme to host annual Memorial Day parade on Monday

Old Lyme ―The Old Lyme Fire Department has announced the town’s annual Memorial Day parade and memorial service will kick off at 11 a.m. Monday.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1467 Senior Vice Commander and Lyme First Selectman David Lahm will serve as the master of ceremonies for the parade, which starts at the Lyme Street fire station and proceeds to the Duck River Cemetery on McCurdy Road for a memorial service.

The parade will regroup after the service for the return to the fire station. Participants include members of the Lyme and Old Lyme fire departments, Connecticut National Guard, the high school and middle school bands, Deep River Senior Drum Corps and New London Firefighters Pipes and Drums.

The post’s rifle squad will present military honors and the Connecticut Air National Guard will perform a flyover.

If rain forces the cancellation of the parade, the memorial service will be held in the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School auditorium at 11 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the Old Lyme Fire Department with financial support from the towns of Old Lyme and Lyme.
