Norwich candidate withdraws from school board race

Norwich ― City Democrats will be short one Board of Education candidate on the Nov. 7 ballot after one endorsed candidate withdrew, and the party was unable to find a replacement.

Jesshua Jarmon, who had served previously on the school board, had been one of six Democratic candidates endorsed in July, the maximum number allowed for one party on the nine-member board.

Democratic Town Committee Chairman Kevin Saythany, also a school board member, said the committee attempted to find another Democrat, either within the town committee or among city registered Democrats, to run in Jarmon’s place, but was unable to find someone.

“Because of time commitment, many of them have jobs and families. And can’t run this year,” Saythany said.

The school board race now has incumbent Democrats, Saythany, Mark Kulos, Carline Charmelus and Greg Perry and newcomer candidate John Iovino against six Republicans, incumbents Christine Distasio and Heather Fowler, recently appointed James Paulsen and newcomers Yamir Flores, Chris Milton and Brendon Mansaku.
