Polls open for New London Democratic City Council primary

New London ― Polls will be open until 8 p.m. today for a City Council primary that will decide which seven Democratic candidates will appear on the general election ballot in November.

Today’s election features council incumbents Reona Dyess, Carmen Jocelyn Rosario, John Satti, Efrain Dominguez Jr., Alma Nartatez and Akil Peck, as well as Jefferey Hart, a Board of Education member seeking a council seat this fall.

Petitioning Democratic council candidates Mirna Martinez and Shineika Fareus, who failed to capture their party’s endorsements in July, garnered enough signatures in the past few weeks to force today’s primary election.

Registered New London Democrats can cast ballots at their respective polling location: either New London STEM High School, 490 Jefferson Ave.; the former Harbor Elementary School, 432 Montauk Ave.; or Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School, 37 Beech Drive.
