Waterford ― Jim Kennedy, of East Lyme, used oil paints as he worked on a scene at the cutting garden at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford on Wednesday.
Monarch butterflies also swarmed to the area around the flowers, feeding off flowers before migrating south for the season.
Kennedy who called himself an “advanced amateur” painter, was working on a scene with the sunflowers in bloom. He said he comes to the park often to paint.
“This is just the most beautiful space to spend time and try and capture,” he said.
