Groton man charged with impersonating police officer during commute

State police said a 43-year-old Groton driver on Wednesday was charged with impersonating a police officer after admitting to using emergency vehicle lights in East Haven to get to work quicker.

At approximately 8:48 a.m., an on-duty trooper assigned to Troop G in Bridgeport observed a Dodge Challenger driven by Michael Marshall south on Interstate 95 near Exit 52 displaying several steady red-and-blue lights from the front of his car.

State police in a news release said Marshall’s car was not registered to a law enforcement agency. Police said Marshall admitted to not being a police officer and said he installed aftermarket vehicle controls into his car to make his work commute faster, the release states.

Marshall, of 34 Florida St., was charged with impersonating a police officer and released on a $5,000 bond. He is due to be arraigned in New Haven Superior Court on Nov. 13.
