New and familiar faces to fill seats on Stonington finance and school boards
Stonington — Voters elected both new and familiar faces Tuesday to fill three Board of Finance seats and three Board of Education seats.
Incumbent Democrat Farouk Rajab, 52 , was reelected to one of three available seats on the board of Education with 3,617 votes. he has served for the last five years and is currently the chairman.
The other two seats will be filled by Democrat Meghan Blanchette, who received 3,349 votes and Republican Katie Gauthier, a former elementary school teacher who received 3,043 votes.
Republican David Lee was the unsuccessful candidate for the school board.
Incumbent Deborah Norman will retain her seat on the Board of Finance with 3,545 votes. The other two seats will be filled by Democrat William Sternberg and Republican David Brown. Democrat Farrah Garland actually received more votes than Brown but can not be placed on the board due to minority representation rules. The other unsuccessful candidate was Republican John Prue.
The town received a ruling from the secretary of the state Tuesday clarifying the minority representation rules.
