    Montville to hold holiday parade and tree lighting this Sunday

    Montville ― The town has scheduled its annual Holiday Parade and Tree lighting ceremony for Sunday at 5 p.m. with a rain date of Dec. 10.

    The parade will start at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen at 53 Norwich-New London Turnpike (Route 32), travel north and end with a tree lighting and awards for parade entries at Town Hall.

    Beginning at 4:15 p.m., the town’s police and fire departments will detour traffic from Route 32.

    Northbound traffic will be diverted to Red Cedar Avenue, then Jerome Road, then Maple Avenue and back to Route 32. Southbound traffic will follow the same route, but in reverse.

    Spectators can park on side streets along the parade route, which can be accessed via Lathrop Road, which is to the east of Route 32, and Jerome Road, which is to its west.

    Anyone interested in contributing a float to the parade can download an application at https://www.townofmontville.org/announcements/2023-holiday-parade-application/, and submit it to the the parks and recreation department.

    Floats and equipment must be at the funeral home no later than 4:00 p.m. The only Santa float allowed in the parade will be provided by the Parks & Recreation department.
