    Free holiday concert Dec. 17

    The United States Coast Guard Band will present its annual holiday concert under the baton of Chief Warrant Officer Jeffrey Spenner at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, in Leamy Hall at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Spenner will lead a preconcert talk at 1 p.m.

    The program opens with Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Jesters” from “The Snow Maiden,” followed by Styne's “Christmas Waltz” and Gorb’s “Yiddish Dances.” A series of beloved Christmas tunes follows, including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which will feature Musician First Class Reneé McGee on trumpet. Musician First Class Allison Landstedt, a soprano, will sing “Let it Snow” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” The concert closes with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”

    Community Carol Sing at Mystic Seaport Museum

    Join the festive vibes at Mystic's Community Carol Sing at Mystic Seaport Museum on Dec. 17, kicking off the day at Greenman’s Landing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with carolers serenading in Greenmanville Church. The merriment continues with a 3 p.m. carol sing. The event is free to attend, no tickets are needed and all food and beverage are pay as you go.     Carol sing-along in Niantic on Dec. 16

    Niantic Baptist Church, 443 Main St. in downtown Niantic, is hosting a Christmas Carol Sing-Along at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Enjoy music, fellowship, cookies and cocoa. You're invited to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. All are welcome.

    Otis Library hosting holiday crafts

    Otis Library will host a holiday craft for all ages in the Community Room from 10 to noon Saturday, Dec. 16.

    ‘Merry Christmas Music’ Dec. 12

    On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Women’s Fellowship of Mystic Congregational Church presents “Merry Christmas Music,” featuring Susan Skogerboe. Tea is at 9:15 a.m., and the program of seasonal hymns and carols is at 10 a.m. in the church at 43 E. Main St., Mystic.

    Skogerboe performs on piano, organ and flute, and the program will include the audience in a sing-along. The church will be filled with poinsettias and the aroma of tea for this free event.

    Retired teachers group meets Dec. 19

    The New London County Retired Teachers Association will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Prime 82 Restaurant in Norwich. Cost is $30 for buffet lunch and the holiday program.
