Federal grant will bring charging stations to Groton Public Library

Groton ― The town is one of seven in the state that will receive new electric vehicle charging stations as a result of a $14.6 million dollar federal grant announced by Gov. Ned Lamont on Thursday.

Two separate charging stations, each with two charging cords, will be placed at the Groton Public Library, which already had one older charging station. It will be removed, according to library director Jennifer Miele. The two new stations will charge vehicles faster.

Other charging stations will be placed in Barkhamsted, Bridgeport, East Hartford, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford. The new stations will join 726 other publicly accessible charging locations in Connecticut.

“Putting these funds to work in rural and urban communities around the state will make it easier for people and businesses to continue making the transition to cleaner cars and trucks,” Lamont said in the announcement. “I appreciate the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation for partnering with Connecticut so that we can implement these infrastructure upgrades.”
