Courtney secures funding for local projects in government funding package

U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, voted Wednesday for a bipartisan package of six domestic funding bills that includes nearly $12 million he sought for 15 local projects in eastern Connecticut.

“From housing development to public safety, this major investment will help meet the needs of our communities from the shoreline to the quiet corner,” Courtney said in a statement.

The legislation calls for $2 billion more than President Joe Biden had requested for military construction, and includes funding Courtney sought for two projects at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton.

Among the Community Project Funding initiatives are:

    • $1,666,279 for the Eastern Connecticut Affordable Housing Rescue Plan ― affordable housing acquisition, development and construction
    • $800,000 for Lieutenant River habitat and riparian zone protection and restoration in Old Lyme
    • $500,000 for Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s water treatment plant force main replacement
    • $743,000 for New London Police Department digital infrastructure improvements
    • $1 million for Noank Fire Districts Water Infrastructure Expansion Project
    • $279,000 for Preston public works improvements and upgrades
    • $266,500 for United Way of Southeastern Connecticut food system upgrades
