Operation Fuel extends assistance application deadline to Friday

Operation Fuel has extended its deadline for energy assistance applications after the state last month awarded the program another $3.5 million in funding.

This extends the current energy assistance season for delivered fuels, electricity and gas to Friday, according to a news release. State residents who earn up to 75% of the state median income can apply to the program for up to $500 in assistance.

“This is a tremendous opportunity,” Gannon Long, chief program officer at Operation Fuel said in a statement. “Over the last few years, we’ve had to close our application portal early due to the volume of requests for aid. Now, instead of being forced to turn people away, we’re able to extend our season and help even more neighbors get a little relief in these trying times.”

According to the news release, one out of three Connecticut households is “energy burdened.”

People can apply through Operation Fuel’s online portal, or by making an appointment at one of 45 partner agencies. More information is available at www.operationfuel.org/gethelp.
