Police respond to shooting report in downtown New London
Police around 8:17 p.m. Sunday responded to the report of a shooting in the area of Bank and State streets where, just hours earlier, a crowd of more than 1,000 had gathered for the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.
No injuries were reported, according to Capt. Matthew Galante. He said the shooting “does not appear to be a random act.”
Police arrived at the scene, searched the area and found shell casings, Galante said. The shooting is still being investigated.
As of 9:52 p.m., part of Bank Street ― from where it intersects with Golden Street to where it intersects with State Street ― was still closed off to vehicle traffic, and police had set up a perimeter in front of restaurant New London Eats and the former Thames Landing Oyster House.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at (860) 447-1481 or submit anonymous information by texting NLPDTip plus the information to Tip411(847411).
This is a developing story.
