Updated: Power returned to thousands in Norwich after early morning outage

Norwich ― About 5,000 customers lost power this morning when a piece of equipment at Norwich Public Utility’s Dudley Street substation failed.

Spokesman Chris Riley said power, which went out around 4:45 a.m., was restored to all customers by around 8 a.m. Power was rerouted from another substation to the affected areas on West Main Street, the downtown area and Norwichtown.

The company is evaluating conditions within the Dudley Street substation and expects to have more information about the failure later today.
