    Local college roundup: UConn tops CCSU in baseball

    New Britain — Thad Phillips' three-run homer capped a four-run top of the 10th inning as UConn beat Central Connecticut State 7-3 in a nonleague baseball game on Tuesday.

    Isaac Feldstein's sacrifice fly in the 10th gave UConn a 4-3 lead. A double by former Wheeler standout Troy Stefanski, his second of the game, helped get the rally going. Phillips was 3-for-4 and scored three runs, Anthony Prato had two hits and scored twice and Christian Fedko drove in two runs for UConn (10-7).

    P.J. Poulin (2-0) earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings. Former Montville standout Buddy Dewaine singled and scored a run for CCSU (3-8). 

    Women's lacrosse

    • Coast Guard snapped a two-game losing streak with a 16-12 win over Merchant Marine in a nonleague game. The win gives the Bears (5-1) a 6.5-3.5 lead in the Superintendent's Trophy competition between the two schools. Freshman Marietta Davis had four goals and two assists and classmate Brenna Farrington scored four goals for Coast Guard. Former Fitch standout Daria McKenna had a goal and three assists for Coast Guard.  

    • Host Muhlenberg took a 6-0 lead and went on to beat Connecticut College 17-11 in a nonleague game. Clare Bisson scored three goals, Julia Loesch had two goals and an assist, Hannah Lombard scored twice and Jamie Navoni had five draw controls, three ground balls and two goals for Conn (2-4).
