    H.S. roundup: Pontbriant's no-hitter lifts Montville baseball to 12-0 win

    Lebanon — Freshman Griffin Pontbriant pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Montville defeated Lyman Memorial 12-0 in a baseball game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule Wednesday.

    Lyman's only baserunner walked in the fifth.

    Ryan Champagne had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI and John Domijan had three hits and three RBI for the Indians (2-0).

    In other games:

    • No. 2 Waterford scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Plainfield 13-10. Sonny Pezzello's RBI single tied the game at 10-10 and Bobby Silva earned the win with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. Walker Sutman had two singles, two doubles and drove in four runs, Nick Porazzi was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, Liam Spellman singled and doubled and Porazzi and Spellman scored four runs each for Waterford (2-0), which left 18 runners on base.

    • Hunter Thornton pitched a complete game one-hitter as Old Lyme blanked North Branford 3-0 in the Shoreline Conference. Thornton struck out eight. Joe Balocca had two RBI and Ronnie Losacano scored two runs for Old Lyme.

    • Chris Haines' two-run double highlighted a six-run second inning, as Wheeler went on to beat Putnam 11-5. Aiden Cameron and Chris Case each had three hits and an RBI while Seth Jones added two hits and two RBI and Bowen Baker pitched six innings to earn the win for the Lions (1-3).

    H.S. girls' lacrosse

    • Bridget Feeley scored three goals and Mia Londregan added two as St. Bernard defeated Griswold 5-3. St. Bernard is 1-1.

    • Audrey Matson scored her 100th career goal, leading Williams School to a 24-9 win over MacDuffie. Matson had 10 goals and three assists. Sophie Salgar scored four goals and Rachel Luxton scored three. Lyndsey Nonewiecz had 18 saves for Williams (1-0).

    • Old Lyme lost to defending Class M champion Branford 16-5 in a nonleague game on Tuesday night. Daisy Colvin scored twice and Emily Erne made 14 saves for Old Lyme (1-2).

    • Karlie Rowe scored six goals as East Lyme beat Bacon Academy 18-9 on Tuesday. Olivia Facchini had two goals and two assists, Julia Bates scored three goals and Caroline Healy and Morgan Crandall had two goals and an assist each for East Lyme (2-0).

    H.S. boys' lacrosse

    • Caleb Holdridge chipped in three goals and two assists and Zach Fayan added three goals for Waterford in a 17-1 win over Ledyard. Peter Lincoln had two goals and one assist and Jackson Alloway and Zander Stringer each had two goals for the Lancers (4-1). Ethan Hollerbecki scored for Ledyard (0-3). 

    • Sebastian Marshall scored on an assist from James Knowlton with under two minutes left for Williams School's first lead of the game and the Blues defeated St. Thomas More 5-4 in their season opener. Marshall and Harry Anselmi each had two goals while Quinn Furgueson had one goal and one assist and James Knowlton added two assists and a game-high 10 ground balls.

    • Norwich Tech/Windham Tech lost to Woodstock 12-10 on Tuesday. Alex Ryan had five goals and Evan Socha scored four times for Norwich Tech (1-1).

    H.S. boys' golf

    • Grasso Tech and Ellis Tech finished in a 223-223 tie in their Connecticut Technical Conference match. Grasso Tech's Hunter Brazee was the medalist with a 46.

    • Ryan Sadosky earned medalist honors by firing a 40, leading Waterford past Griswold 7-0 at River Ridge Golf Course. The Lancers (2-0) won the team medal point 196-227.

    • Nishant Patel, Bret Noreika, Keegan Pierce and Ryan Sherman won matches for Fitch during a 5.5-1.5 win over Montville at Shennecossett Golf Course. Sam Gaboury of Montville was the medalist.

    • Medalist Ben Bohmbach shot 41 and East Lyme defeated Bacon Academy 6-1 at Chanticlair Golf Course. Evan Kluge shot 43 for the Vikings.

    College softball

    • Coast Guard Academy ended a seven-game losing streak against Springfield with a 7-5 win in game two of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Bears (16-6, 7-3) dropped the opener 3-1. Emily Hogan's three-run double highlighted a four-run seventh inning, helping the Bears rally from a 5-3 deficit in the second game. Audrey Bartz and Hogan had two hits apiece. In game one, Waterford graduate Claire Hurley had two of the team's five hits.

    • Mitchell College managed only five hits in a doubleheader loss to Saint Joseph. Game scores were 10-0 and 3-0. Italia Krick had a single in the first game and Stephanie Adams doubled in game two for the Mariners (8-12)

    College baseball

    • Salve Regina broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth inning and took advantage of 10 errors in a 19-7 rout of Mitchell. Jeremy Santos had three hits and an RBI while Steve Pagan and Garet Griffin had two hits apiece and an RBI for the Mariners (17-4).

    • Coast Guard rallied from a 10-5 deficit to take a 12-11 lead before Wesleyan scored two runs in the eighth inning to pull out a 13-12 victory. It was the 10th straight loss for the Bears (6-14). Luke Thompson had a double and four RBI while Jeremy Lhotka went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Coast Guard.

    Men's lacrosse

    • Riley McNulty contributed three goals and three assists in Coast Guard's 21-1 win over Mitchell. Cole Hudson and Matt Huemme had three goals apiece and Will Iorio added two goals and two assists for Coast Guard (9-2). Mitchell is 0-10.

    Women's lacrosse

    • Fitch graduate Daria McKenna went over 100 career points by scoring a season-high eight goals and adding two assists in Coast Guard's 22-10 win at Western Connecticut. McKenna has 108 career points. Marietta Davis had five goals and Haley McCue added four goals and one assist for Coast Guard (9-3), which led 10-5 at halftime.

    Men's tennis

    • Coast Guard won seven of the nine matches in straight sets to defeat Clark 7-2 in the NEWMAC. Tom Hackett, John Hu, Mike Melampy, Kyle Fager, Jack Phillips and Hunter Shortly won in for the Bears (5-3, 2-1).

    H.S. sailing

    • Williams swept all five races to beat Rogers High School in Newport, R.I. Winning skippers were senior co-captains Alex Bowdler and Colin Madaus and freshman Mary Madaus.
