    Local roundup: Schooners rally in ninth to beat Danbury

    Danbury — The Mystic Schooners scored all of their runs in the final two innings, including four in the top of the ninth, as they rallied to beat the Danbury Westerners 6-3 on Thursday night in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game.

    Steven Barmakian (George Washington) went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Mystic (17-13).

    Chris Dutra (Duke) singled to lead off the ninth. He was replaced by pinch runner Conor Moriarty (UConn), who went to a second on a passed ball and scored on a pinch-hit double by Chris Winkel (UConn).

    Winkel went to third on Barmakian’s single and scored on an error to tie the game at 4.

    Pinch hitter Brett Rodriguez (Wofford) and Chris Sullivan (Hartford) followed with back-to-back doubles to push the Schooners ahead 6-3.

    Danbury is 13-18.

    New York-Penn League

    • Matt Brooks hit a go-ahead RBI single to score Denis Karas with one out in the top of the ninth as the Batavia Muckdogs edged the Connecticut Tigers 4-3. Brooks had struck out three times prior to his game-winning hit. Karas had two hits, including a three-run home run, and scored twice for the Muckdogs (12-13). Darwin Alvarado had a single and two RBI for the Tigers (12-14) and Nick Ames had two hits and an RBI.

    SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

    • Jordan Lowell pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as Groton beat East Lyme 11-0 in five innings. Derek Pelletier went 2-for-4 with a double for Groton while Lowell added a triple.
