The Schooners (17-14) trailed 3-0 before RBI singles by Steve Barmakian (George Washington) and Chris Winkel (UConn) pulled Mystic within a run. Conor Moriarty (UConn) and Freddy Sabito (Wagner) had two hits apiece for the Schooners. Keene is 18-13.

    Dick Beams Scholarships

    • Four recent high school graduates are recipients of the 2018 Coach Dick Beams Scholarships, the scholarship committee has announced. This year's scholarship winners are: East Lyme's Alex Chambers, who will be attending Trinity College; East Lyme's Dylan Hatajik (Georgetown), St. Bernard's Briana Beverly (Wentworth) and Joseph Scaglione of Our Lady of Lourdes in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (RPI).

Beams began his coaching career in New York, but moved to Connecticut following his retirement and served as an assistant football coach East Lyme, St. Bernard and Bacon Academy while coaching softball at East Lyme and basketball at New London. The $500 scholarships are awarded to college-bound football and/or softball players based on academic and athletic achievements and must have graduated from one of the schools where he coached.

    Ex-NFA athlete honored

    • Stephanie Altman Anderson, a 1997 Norwich Free Academy graduate, has been selected for induction into the Eastern Connecticut State University E-Club Athletic Hall of Fame. Altman, a 2001 ECSU graduate, is one of only two players in the 23-year history of ECSU women's lacrosse to score at least 200 career goals. She graduated in 2001 as the career leader in goals (205) and points (231) in 61 career matches. She scored a career high 74 goals as a senior in 2001.

    American Legion Zone 6

    • New London, which forfeited a pair of games earlier this week because it could not field nine players, has been disqualified from Zone 6 play for the remainder of the season, Zone 6 commissioner John Krot announced. American Legion rules, Krot said, stipulate that any program that forfeits two games during a season is immediately disqualified from playing again that season. New London, which had three games remaining against Niantic, will forfeit all three and finish 9-18.

    Junior Legion Zone 6

    • Jacob Curtis had two doubles and drove in two runs as Niantic defeated Willimantic 7-2. Aidan Ellis added a hit a two RBI for Niantic.
