    Local colleges: Noonan lifts unbeaten Conn men's soccer team to victory

    New London — Liam Noonan scored in the 34th minute as the unbeaten Connecticut College men's soccer team beat Williams 1-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

    Freshman Augie Djerdjaj assisted on the goal, which Noonan put over the head of Williams goalie Aaron Schein. AJ Marcucci made five saves for his sixth shutout of the year for Conn (8-0, 5-0), which has outscored opponents 19-1 this season.

    In other games:

    • Bryan Ramos scored in the 72nd minute to break a tie and lead Mitchell College to a 2-1 win over Dean in a New England Collegiate Conference game. Daniel Hotaling gave Mitchell a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. Ruben Gomes and Dylan Thambirasa had assists and Preston's Seth Strader made three saves for Mitchell (3-5, 2-1). 

    • Seniors Patrick Palermo-Re and Quintin Parsons of Niantic each scored their first goals of the season as Coast Guard Academy beat Wheaton 2-0 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Dakota Harich made five saves for the shutout and Noah Harper had an assist for Coast Guard (3-5-2, 1-2).

    Women's soccer

    • Waterford's Claire Hurley scored in the 20th minute to pull Coast Guard even in a 1-1 tie against Wellesley in the NEWMAC. Freshman Brielle Pearce assisted on Hurley's team-leading fourth goal and classmate Katharina Commins made four saves for Coast Guard (4-4-1, 1-1-1).

    • Conn College lost to No. 2 Williams 1-0 in the NESCAC. Freshman Rain Condie scored late in the first half for Williams (7-0-1, 5-0-1). Sarah Williams made four saves for Conn (5-3, 1-3). 

    • Mitchell fell to Dean 2-0 in the NECC. Drew Johndrow made five saves for Mitchell (1-8, 0-3).

    Women's cross country

    • Coast Guard sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney placed fourth overall and led the Bears to a sixth-place finish out of 43 teams at the 45th annual Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The All-American ran the 6K course in 21:27. Freshman Laurel Felt (22:12) was second for Coast Guard placing 15th.

    • Mitchell finished last in the six-team CCRI Tri-State Invitational. Paige Aguilar led Mitchell with a 33rd-place finish (25:09) and teammate Kate McCormack was 36th (25:27).

    Men's cross country

    • New London's David Still finished fourth at the CCRI Tri-State Invitational, leading Mitchell to a seventh-place finish. Still ran the 8K course in 30:25. Mitchell's Mark Garceau was 14th in 31:53.

    • Andre Gallant was the top Coast Guard finisher, placing 11th as the Bears finished third out of 38 teams at the 45th annual Paul Short Run at Lehigh. Gallant ran the 8K course in 26:41 while Alex Kearney (26:55) was 22nd, Colton Atkinson (27:10) was 25th, Matthew Doyle (27:23) placed 34th, Adam VanDeren (27:27) was 40th, Jacob McGlumphy (27:30) was 41st and Ryan Von Brock (27:33) was 44th for the Bears.

    Volleyball

    • Babson won its fifth straight, beating Coast Guard 25-18, 25-12, 25-16 in the NEWMAC. Bridget Boyle had nine kills, Veronica Hine had eight digs and Makenna Martin had 18 assists for Coast Guard (14-3, 3-3).

    • Southern Vermont beat Mitchell 3-0 in the NECC, winning each game 25-15. Laurissa Amaker had five kills and 10 digs, Ariana Carter had six kils, Shyla Phillips-Krick had 19 digs and Courtney Cappabianca had 10 digs for Mitchell (0-9, 0-2).

    Field hockey

    • No. 13 Williams beat Conn College 1-0 in the NESCAC. Libby Dolan scored in the 22nd minute for Williams (6-1, 4-1). Jackie Mountford made nine saves for Conn (2-7, 0-5).
