    Local college roundup: UConn to hold open men's basketball practice for fans

    Storrs — The UConn men's basketball team will hold an open practice for fans on Saturday afternoon.

    The workout runs from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion.

    Admission is free. Doors will open at noon and fans should enter via the North Entrance or East Entrance and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

    The Huskies begin the Dan Hurley era with an exhibition game against Division II Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, Nov. 2. That night former UConn star and now SCSU head coach Scott Burrell will have his No. 24 placed among the Huskies of Honor on the Gampel Pavilion wall.

    The regular-season opener is Thursday, Nov. 8 at Gampel Pavilion against Morehead State.

    Men's soccer

    • Connecticut College is No. 1 in the first NCAA regional rankings this season. The rankings are a strong indication of which teams are in the best position to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The Camels are 11-0-2 overall. Fellow New England Small College Athletic Conference title contender Tufts is ranked second.

    Women's soccer

    • Zoe Stublarec scored her third goal of the season and junior classmate Sarah Williamson made a career-high 15 saves as Connecticut College battled Trinity College to a 1-1 double overtime tie in the NESCAC. The Camels are 7-5-1 overall, 2-5-1 in the NESCAC.
