    Local roundup: T-More advances to Founder's tourney final

    Montville — Wayne Bristol scored 19 points as the St. Thomas More men's basketball team defeated Bridgton Academy 80-68 in the first round of the Founder's Tournament on beat Bridgton (Maine) on Friday night.

    Nick McDonald added 14 points for the host Chancellors (15-8), who will play the winner Knox School (N.Y.) in Saturday's championship at 1 p.m. Knox beat Thetford Academy of Canada in Friday's second game.

    Bridgton and Thetford will play in the consolation game at 11 a.m.

    Women's hockey

    • Jordan Cross scored with 1:27 left in overtime as Connecticut College shocked 10th-ranked Williams College 2-1 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Erin Dillon scored and Bailey Mertz had 20 saves for Conn (8-4-2, 4-3-2). Also, Ellie Branka, Elena Gualtieri and Paige Michel had assists. Amanda Reisman scored for the Ephs (10-4-1, 5-4) and Chloe Heiting had 28 saves.

    Men's hockey

    • Andy Espinoza had a goal and an assist as Wesleyan University scored the game's final three goals in the third period to beat Conn College 6-3 in the NESCAC. Tim Sestak had 25 saves for Wesleyan (8-4-2, 7-0-2). Jacob Moreau, Kyle Shero and Anthony Quatieri scored for the Camels (4-10-1, 0-8-1) and Connor Rodericks made 22 saves.

    H.S. swimming

    • Sam Heilig won a pair of events as undefeated Fitch/Stonington/Ledyard/Norwich Tech beat New London 97-59 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference meet. Heilig won the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.75) and 100 backstroke (1:06.37). Chase Simao, Ben Chidey and Keegan Reck also won events for Fitch (5-0, 5-0) and Aaron Reck, Nathanael Padgett, Matt Carney, Ian Sanok and Simao teamed up to win two relays.

    New London's Oliver Guijarro-Sines won the 50 freestyle (26.59) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.36). Finella Smith won the 500 freestyle and combined with Sara Beth Bouchard, Carlos Silva and Joseph Lastraglio to win the 400 freestyle relay for the Whalers (0-5, 0-5).

    • Robert Hahn won the 100 freestyle (53.43) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team for East Lyme in its 84-69 win over Windham/RHAM/Coventry in an ECC meet. Hahn teamed with Powall Wang, Hawken Hammen and Jack Zhang to win the 200 medley relay (1:55.38) for the Vikings (4-1, 3-1). Other winners for East Lyme were Ryan Huang (200 freestyle, 1:59.86), Jack Lombardo (200 IM, 2:24.04), and James Han (100 backstroke, 1:15.60).

    H.S. wrestling

    • Mason Concascia (106 pounds) and AJ Sachatello (152, 160) each won two matches by pin and another by forfeit for host Waterford at Wrestle for the Cure. The Lancers beat Coventry, R.I. (36-33) and Westerly (66-6), but lost to No. 7 Foran (52-27). Eric Zane (138) won twice by decision and another by forfeit for Waterford (15-4).

    H.S. indoor track

    • East Lyme's 4x800-meter relay team captured first at the East Coast Invitational at Providence Career and Tech. Laura Agbayani, Gilly Goodwin, Ellie McCoy and Sophie Taylor teamed up to win the race in 10 minutes, 8.47 seconds. The Vikings also earned a second-place in the sprint medley relay as Saige Deveau (200-meter leg), Nancy Alden (200), Katherine Harris (400) and Julia Bates (800) finished in 4:21.77.
