Local sports: Saturday forecast leads to some earlier starting times
A pending winter storm which is scheduled to hit the region early Saturday evening has forced a number of schools to move sporting events to earlier starts.
Among those are the UConn-Tulane men's basketball game at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, which will start at 2 p.m. instead of 7:30, and St. Thomas More's annual Founder's men's basketball tournament, which will now play its consolation game at 11 a.m. and championship game at 1 p.m.
It was also announced Friday that the UConn-Temple women's game in Philadelphia has been moved from Sunday to Saturday at noon.
Locally, five high school events will start earlier as will three local college events.
Following is a list of those changes:
• Boys' basketball: Norwich Free Academy at Holy Cross, 5 to 3 p.m.; Weaver at Ledyard, 4:30 to 3:45 p.m.
• Girls' basketball: Old Saybrook at St. Bernard, 5:30 to 3:30 p.m.; Ledyard at Montville, 6 to 5 p.m.
• H.S. hockey: Eastern CT Eagles vs. Sheehan at Choate Rosemary Hall, 5:30 to 4:30 p.m.
• Men's basketball: Wesleyan at Connecticut College, 3 to 2 p.m.
• Women's hockey: Williams at Conn College, 3 to 2 p.m.
• College swimming: Merchant Marine at Coast Guard Academy, noon to 11:30 a.m.
