    Black Wolves

The New England Black Wolves begin a three-game series Saturday against the Rochester Knighthawks (at Rochester, 7:30 p.m.)

The Black Wolves are 5-3, tied for first place with Buffalo in the National Lacrosse League’s East Division, but will be playing a division opponent in Rochester for the next three weeks running. And a dangerous division opponent at that.

Rochester was the NLL champ for three straight seasons (2012-14) before falling last year in the division finals.

“It’s a bit of a chess match,” New England coach Glenn Clark said of the three-game set. “We prep for this Saturday. We take inventory of the game for what worked and what didn’t work. We don’t have a one-size-fits-all plan. We’re constantly assessing, evaluating.

“If we were playing Rochester, Buffalo, Toronto the next three games, it would be the same type of challenge.”

The Black Wolves come home to face Rochester on Friday, March 25 (7:30 p.m.), before traveling back to Rochester for a 7 p.m. game the following day.

The Black Wolves, coming off a 14-13 loss to the Colorado Mammoth, are led by Shawn Evans’ 58 points (24 goals, 34 assists) and 42 points from Kevin Crowley (17 goals, 25 assists).

Rochester was 4-4 heading into Friday night’s game against Buffalo. The Knighthawks are led by Cody Jamieson with 49 points (17 goals, 32 assists).

The teams play one more time on May 1, the final game of the regular season.

“You try to put the best package and game plan together you think is going to advantage you,” Clark said of taking the Rochester series game by game. “It’s just a constant moving target.”
