Stephens, Harris lift CGA to 8-2 baseball win over Albertus Magnus

New London — Will Stephens hit his first career home run to back a solid pitching of Walter Harris as Coast Guard Academy rolled to an 8-2 baseball victory over Albertus Magnus in a non-conference game on Monday.

Stephens hit a three-run shot in the fifth for the Bears (7-6) while Harris (1-0), allowed just two hits with a career-high eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Nate Ralph allowed just one run and one hit while striking out two over the next 2 1/3 innings before Cody Fidler pitched a perfect ninth for Coast Guard.

Fidler got the Bears on the board in the second with a sacrifice fly. They took a 2-1 lead on Luke Thompson's infield out in the third before breaking the game open with four runs in the fifth thanks to Stephens' blast and an RBI double by Jon Pressley.

Jeremy Lhotka had an RBI single in the seventh to give Coast Guard a 7-1 lead and he walked with the bases loaded in the ninth to complete the scoring.
