Killingworth — Trace Morales and Griffin Pollard combined to pitch a one-hitter Friday, leading Mystic to an 8-0 victory over Wethersfield in the opening game of the state Section 3 Little League (ages 11-12) tournament.

Morales pitched four innings, allowing one hit, striking out eight and walking one, and Pollard two innings for Mystic, which will meet Madison at 11 a.m. Saturday. Dylan Joyce had three hits, including a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Jayden Carter two hits and two runs scored. Mystic scored five runs in the second inning and three in the fifth.

State LL softball (8-10)

• Groton/Mystic defeated Middletown 18-5 in a four-inning inning game in the Section 3 tournament at Durham. Breea Gilruth had two hits and three RBI and Isabel Southers had four RBI and scored three runs to lead Groton/Mystic. Pitcher Jillian Fugere had seven strikeouts and scattered three hits. 

Crawford named All-Pro

• New England Black Wolves forward Callum Crawford was named to the National Lacrosse League's 2018-19 All-Pro Second Team. It is the third such honor for Crawford in his career, having also earned All-Pro honors following the 2013 and 2016 seasons.

The 6-foot-3 Crawford led the NLL with a career-best 48 goals this season in just 16 games. He also had 61 assists for 109 points, the second-highest total in the NLL. It was the second 100-plus point season of his career after finishing with 115 in 2016.

"We are so proud of Callum and even happier to call him a member of the Black Wolves,” New England general manager Rich Lisk said in a release. “It certainly was an All-Pro year for Callum. He’s been a legitimate superstar in the NLL for many years and I don't see that changing any time soon." 

Joining Crawford as All-Pro honorees were first team picks Dane Dobbie, Lyle Thompson, Challen Rogers, Graeme Hossack, Kyle Rubsich and Matt Vinc and Eli McLaughlin, Zach Currier, Steve Priolo, Brodie Merrill and Christian Del Bianco on the second team.

Tigers fall in Aberdeen

• Three Aberdeen IronBirds pitchers combined to throw a three-hitter in a seven-inning game, beating the Connecticut Tigers 4-0 in the first game of a New York-Penn League doubleheader.

Starter James Ryan pitched four innings, while relievers Brian Gonzalez and Shelton Perkins combined for three no-hit innings out of the bullpen. Aberdeen scored two runs in the third inning and two in the fifth.

Eric De La Rosa, Kingston Liniak and Ryan Kreidler had hits for the Tigers.

• The Tigers rebounded to win the second game of a doubleheader Thursday night against the IronBirds. The Tigers lost the first game 4-3 on a home run in the bottom of the ninth before taking the second, seven-inning game 3-2.

Kyle Thomas earned his first career win and Zac Shepherd his first career save for the Tigers (15-17).  Trailing 2-0, Connecticut responded in the fourth inning. Hector Martinez brought home a pair of runs for the Tigers on an IronBirds error and Jose King gave Connecticut the lead on an RBI fielder's choice.

Jake Baker and Shepherd combined to throw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen with three hits allowed.
