    Local roundup: Coast Guard blanks Salve in volleyball

    Newport, R.I. — Angelou Dunton had 11 digs and a match-high 10 kills to lead Coast Guard Academy to a 3-0 win over Salve Regina in a nonleague women's volleyball match Thursday night.

    The Bears (14-5) won 29-27, 25-22 and 25-20.

    Bridget Boyle hit .421 and added nine kills, Amanda Dake had eight kills and nine digs while Noelle Tursky led the way with 25 digs to go with her seven kills, eight digs and match-high four aces. Mary Sweet added seven kills and a match-high four blocks. 

    H.S. volleyball

    • Old Lyme lost to East Hampton 25-9, 25-15, 25-15 in a Shoreline Conference match. Isabel Dean Frazier had eight assists and Olivia Tetreault had seven digs for Old Lyme (2-10, 0-10).

    Women's soccer

    • UConn picked up its first American Athletic Conference win of the season, beating Houston 2-1. Yamilee Eveillard scored both goals for UConn (5-7-1, 1-4) and Melina Couzis, Jacqueline Harnett and Kess Elmore had assists for the Huskies while Randi Palacios made five saves. Desiree Bowen scored in the 15th minute to give Houston (3-10, 0-3) a 1-0 lead.

    H.S. girls' soccer

    • Wheeler fell to Tourtellotte 6-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game. Addie Hauptmann made 23 saves for Wheeler (0-10, 0-6).
