    Local roundup: Windham blanks Ledyard 18-0

    Willimantic — Felix Martinez rushed for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Windham defeated Ledyard 18-0 in a high school football game on Friday night.

    Martinez's final TD, a one-yard run with 1 minute, 36 seconds left, came one play after Mason Vargas returned an interception 60 yards to the Ledyard 1.

    Martinez also scored on an 11-yard run on the third offensive play of the game for the Whippets (2-5) while Jovan Almodover returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown later in the first quarter.

    The Colonels fell to 1-6.

    In other games:

    • Jack Sharpe ran 22 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to break a scoreless tie as Killingly scored 27 points in the second and cruised to a 49-0 victory over Stonington. The Red Hawks improved to 7-0 while Stonington fell to 0-7.

    H.S. swimming

    • East Lyme suffered it first loss of the season, dropping a 105-80 non-conference decision to Wethersfield, but Nikki Hahn broke a pair of school records and was part of another record-breaking relay team. Hahn won the 200-yard individual medley in a school record 2 minutes, 12.29 seconds and captured the 100 breaststroke in a school and pool record 1:06.55. She also joined Grace Vlaun, Anna Lu and Katie Keating to set a pool record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.63). Keating also set a school record in the 100 butterfly (59.84) for the Vikings (11-1) while Vlaun added a win in the 200 free (2:00.23) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Hahn, Vlaun, Keating and Lauren Hinckley won in 1:43.10.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Mackenzie Clark's 10 digs, five assists and two aces helped Montville reach the .500 mark with a 3-0 win over Norwich Tech. Maya Hillman added six kills, six blocks and two digs for the Indians (10-10), and Anna Kreitlow contributed 15 digs. For the Warriors (7-13), Joharys Perez-Rivera recorded nine points, two aces, five digs and four kills. Game scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-22.

    H.S. cross country

    • Anna Terry of Williams School placed sixth in 25:25 over 5K at the eight-team HVAL Championship in Waterbury. Beatrice Palmer followed in seventh for the Blues in 25:30 while Vaishnavi Ladd was 14th in 27:28, Kaitlyn Burzin was 19th in 29:39 and Ye Hou was 25th in 32:51. In the boys' race, Philip Knowlton led Williams in 13th place (19:20) while Hunter Dolphin finished 21st (20:24).

    College field hockey

    • UConn won its seventh straight Big East regular season title with a 5-0 win over Georgetown. Svea Boker scored two goals within 19 seconds in the second half, the first on a penalty stroke, and teammates Maddy Wray, Sophie Hamilton and Abby Gooderham also scored. The Huskies (15-3, 7-0) only led 1-0 at the half before scoring two goals in each of the last two quarters.

    College volleyball

    • Mitchell College ended its regular season with a 25-10, 25-16 and 25-19 non-conference loss to Western Connecticut. Brianna Ley had seven kills for the Mariners (13-11) and Stephanie Costabile added eight digs and two aces. Mitchell will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference tournament and will host a postseason game on Tuesday night for the first time in program history.

    Men's soccer

    • Mitchell has been seeded fourth for the NECC tournament and will host No. 5 Elms College in the first round on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Mariners defeated Elms 4-2 during the regular season. Sunday's winner will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7 at top-seeded Lesley. Mitchell handed Lesley its lone NECC loss 1-0 in Oct. 26.
