Mitchell names Waterford's Erin Miller its new head softball coach

New London — Waterford native Erin Miller was named head softball coach at Mitchell College on Monday.

It will be the first head coaching job for Miller, who starred at Waterford High School, played collegiately at Eastern Connecticut and spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant and the pitching coach at Smith College, where she earned a master's degree in exercise and sports studies.

After graduating from ECSU in 2015, she spent two seasons as the pitching coach at Coast Guard.

"I believe in Mitchell College's mission to provide an individualized, holistic experience for its students and the support within this community is unmatched," Miller said in a release. "I am excited to join the Mariners softball program and look forward to continuing to build upon the success of the program."

At Eastern, Miller helped the Warriors win four straight Little East regular-season titles and a pair of conference tournament championships. She was the 2014 Little East Pitcher of the Year and was named Most Outstanding Player when ECSU won the conference tournament in 2015. She finished with a 36-14 record with a 2.79 ERA. At Waterford, she was a three-year starter and helped lead the Lancers to a pair of state titles.
