South Bend, Ind. — The UConn baseball team had its season come to an end on Sunday, losing to Central Michigan 14-9 in an elimination game in the NCAA Division I tournament regionals.

UConn (34-19) and Central Michigan (42-17) each hit four home runs in the game. Reggie Crawford (3-for-5) homered twice and drove in four runs and Erik Stock (3-for-4) and Chris Brown (3-for-5) also went deep for the Huskies. UConn trailed 9-5 before scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 9-8. But Central Michigan put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the inning for a 14-8 lead.

Local baseball

• The Norwich Sea Unicorns split a doubleheader with the Pittsfield Suns in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The Sea Unicorns (4-7) won the second game 11-1 after losing the opener 7-3. East Lyme's Matt Malcom (ECSU) and Bryan Loriga (Elite Squad Academy) had two hits each and Kaelen Culpepper (Kansas State) drove in two runs in Game 2. Kyan Lodice (Kansas State) drove in all three runs for Norwich in the opener, including a two-run double in the seventh inning.

H.S. girls' lacrosse

• Ivy Goodman had three goals and an assist as Stonington beat Ellington 8-6 in a quarterfinal in the CIAC Class S tournament on Saturday. Rachel Sabbadini and Elle Thompson scored two goals each and Megan Detwiler had a goal and Massa Traboulsi made 12 saves for Stonington. Anna Bochinno scored two goals for No. 2 Ellington.

• Fitch fell to No. 4 Barlow in a Class M quarterfinal on Saturday, 15-7. Rita Sefransky and Nora Casey had two goals and an assist each, Sophia Clang scored twice, Bridget O'Leary had a goal and an assist and Jessica Russo had an assist for No. 5 Fitch, which finished 13-4.

H.S. girls' tennis

• Waterford's Sarah Hage defeated Stonington's Maddie Hamm 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the CIAC Invitational girls' tennis tournament at Wesleyan on Saturday.

The unseeded Hage, a freshman, will play No. 5 Lexi McCall of New Canaan in Monday's round of 16 at 9 a.m. Two local doubles teams received byes into the quarterfinals and will play their first matches on Monday at 3 p.m. No. 3 Katherine Johnstone and Ekaterina Snegovskikh of Stonington will face unseeded Gabby Price and Julia Pida of Fairfield Ludlowe while No. 4 Lauren Wallace and Alexis Fenton of Old Lyme will play unseeded Grace Cahill and Annie Caldwell of Wilton.

Auto racing

• Todd Owens of Somers won the opening Fast Five 50-lap SK Modified event at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday night. Owens, who picked up $3,000 for the win, was followed across the finish line by Joe Gada of Salem and Timmy Jordan of Plainfield.

Other winners in the five-race program were Jason Palmer of Berlin (Late Models), Wayne Burroughs of Oakdale (SK Lite Modifieds), Tommy Silva of Groton (Mini Stocks) and Jason Chicolas of Sutton, Mass. (Street Stock).

• Alexander Pearl of Salem and Chris Meyer of North Franklin were among the winners on Friday night at Stafford Speedway. Pearl won the 20-lap SK Lite Modified race and Meyer took the 20-lap Street Stock race. Bryan Narducci of Colchester finished fifth in the 40-lap SK Modified race. In the SK Lite race Amanda West of Colchester was 11th, Derek Debbis of Oakdale 13th and Tyler Barry of Griswold 14th.
