    Local roundup: East Lyme Little League baseball (ages 8-10) wins sectional opener

    Newington — Greyson Biggs and Kyle Cellemme each had three hits for East Lyme in a 13-8 victory Wednesday over West Hartford in the opening game of the Connecticut Section 3 Little League tournament (ages 8-10).

    Biggs, Colton Glover and John Roberts each doubled for East Lyme and Glover and Cellemme each had two RBI. Four East Lyme pitchers combined for a five-hitter in the victory for East Lyme, which trailed 7-5 after three innings, but came back to take the lead with three runs in the fourth and added two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

    East Lyme will face Madison at 7 p.m. today. East Hartford and Madison will play Friday and the two teams with the best records will meet for the championship on Saturday.

    East Lyme won the District 10 title 13-2 Saturday over Waterford. Biggs had two hits, including a double, and was the winning pitcher. Biggs, Ethan Chantrell and Alexander Biscotto drove in two runs apiece. AJ Stefano and Reilly Karasevicz had two hits each for Waterford.

    District 10 LL baseball (ages 10-12)

    • Colby Sheehan and Brooks Lane combined to scatter three hits in Waterford's 4-1 victory Tuesday over Glastonbury in the opening game of the Connecticut Section 3 tournament at Waterford. Lucas Racicot, Dustin Powers and JT Sheppard each doubles, while Sheehan highlighted the offense with a home run. Waterford's game Wednesday against Clinton was postponed until Thursday due to inclement weather.

    Futures League

    • Greg Bozzo (Northeastern) went 3-for-3, including two doubles, with two runs and an RBI as the Nashua Silver Knights downed the Norwich Sea Unicorns 11-4. Nick Perkins (Endicott) went 2-for-3, including a double, with four RBI and a run for Nashua (15-27) and Shane McNamara (Eastern Nazarene) singled and scored three times. Jared Zimbardo (Quinnipiac) went 4-for-5, including a double, with three runs for the Sea Unicorns (20-22). Tremayne Cobb (Hartford) added two hits and two RBI.

    • The Pittsfield Suns beat the Norwich Sea Unicorns 11-4 on Tuesday night. Hunter Yaworski (Mitchell) and Tremayne Cobb (Hartford) had three hits each and Michael Torniero (CCSU) had two hits for Norwich.

    NECBL

    • Christopher Brito (Rutgers) hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run second inning as the Mystic Schooners beat the Ocean State Waves 9-7 on Tuesday night. Michael DeMartino (SCSU) homered and doubled for the Schooners (16-14). Brendan Cumming (Princeton) was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored and Jimmy Sullivan (Virginia) and Tucker Flint (Maryland) had two hits each for Mystic.

    American Legion Zone 6

    • Jason Hicks Jr. pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts and an earned run as Norwich beat Moosup 4-2. Anthony Sanchez went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base for Norwich (11-6) and Austin Drabinski went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Also. Riley Burke singled and scored. Blake Deslauriers singled and scored for Moosup (6-13).

    Junior Legion

    • Hunter Stadnicki had two hits and two stolen bases as Norwich edged Tri-Town 2-1. Daniel St. George allowed one run and four hits over five innings for Norwich (6-1).
