    Local roundup: Mystic split doubleheader with Danbury

    Groton — Barry Walsh (Boston College) went 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, with three RBI and two runs as the Mystic Schooners thumped the Danbury Westerners in the second game of a doubleheader Friday, 14-0, in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

    Winning pitcher Anthony Mozzicato (Central Connecticut State) scattered three hits over five innings with five strikeouts for the Schooners (21-17). Brendan Cumming (Princeton) had three hits, including a double, with three runs and two RBI and Addison Kopack added two hits, including a solo home run, with two RBI.

    In the first game, Cameron Masterman (Louisville) went 2-for-3, including a double, with three runs and three RBI as the Westerners won 7-4.

    Andrew Jenkins (Georgia Tech) went 3-for-4, including a double, with two runs and an RBI for the Westerners (21-19).

    Daniel Crossen (Northeastern) went 3-for-3, including two doubles, with two runs for the Schooners. Kopack (Rhode Island) added a solo home run.

    Women's basketball

    • UConn will open its 2021-22 season on Nov. 14 at home against Arkansas, head coach Geno Auriemma announced, although the site (Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center), time and television information won't be announced until a later date. UConn is 1-1 all-time against the Razorbacks, losing 90-87 last season in Fayetteville, the Huskies' only regular-season defeat. Arkansas went on to finish 19-9 and earn an NCAA tournament bid.

    • Jacob Studley hit a double, triple and home run with four RBI and a run as the Brockton Rox downed the Norwich Sea Unicorns, 14-10, before 2,323 at Dodd Stadium. Ben Rounds (Harvard) had two hits, two runs and two RBI for the Rox (30-20) and Tommy Lapham (Babson) added two hits, three runs and an RBI. Korey Morton (UConn) hit two two-run home runs, Brooklyn’s Hunter Yaworski (Mitchell) had three hits, including a triple, and three runs and Tyler Wells (New Haven) hit a two-run triple, an RBI double and scored for the Sea Unicorns (25-30).

    • Korey Morton went 4-for-4, including a double, with three runs and three RBI as the Norwich Sea Unicorns thumped the New Britain Bees on Thursday night, 12-0, in a game called after six innings. Jordan Marot (Franklin Pierce) pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks for Norwich while Hunter Yaworski had two hits, including a double, with three RBI and a run.
