Local colleges: Sammis named offensive line coach at UConn

Storrs — UConn football coach Jim Mora added to his coaching staff on Wednesday by announcing Gordan Sammis will assume the role of offensive line coach.

Sammis spent the previous three seasons as the offensive line coach at William & Mary, where he also added the title of run game coordinator in 2020 and 2021.

"Gordie Sammis is a great fit for our football program," Mora said in a release. "He is hard-working, caring, and has a track record of helping student-athletes realize and reach their potential. I know he will make a positive impact on our team, and specifically our offensive line."

William & Mary led the Colonial Athletic Association in rushing yards with 203.7 yards per game, nearly 30 yards per game more than Stony Brook, which finished second.

"I am excited to join Coach Mora's staff and can't wait to become a part of the UConn community," Sammis said. "The future of UConn football is bright and I'm looking forward to working with a great group of student-athletes and coaches."

Sammis is a 2007 University of Virginia graduate, where he was an offensive guard from 2003-07. He spent time as a graduate student, earning a master's degree in education in 2012, and spent time on the coaching staffs at Columbia, VMI and Lafayette before moving on to William & Mary.
