    Local roundup: Montalto leads Stonington past Killingly in key ECC Div. III game

    Stonington — Sam Montalto scored 10 of his team-high 19 points in the third quarter to pace Stonington past Killingly on Thursday, 61-56, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference boys' basketball game between Division III leaders.

    Cam Hinchey had 13 points for Stonington (5-3, 3-0) and Nate Cyr scored 12.

    Yianni Baribeau had 29 points and 19 rebounds for Killingly (6-3, 3-1) and Thomas Dreibholz scored 12.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Undefeated Killingly recorded seven pins and beat NFA 48-30. Brady Zadora (106 pounds), Ian Cathell (113), Kaden Ware (126), Jack Richardson (145), Seth Dootson (160), Devin Exarhoulias (220) and Owen Turner (285) had the pins for Killingly (11-0).

    Jaiden James (120), Dugan Marsh (132), Connor Devega (138) and Zaire Wallace (170) had pins for NFA (7-4) and teammates Francisco Lugo Del Toro (152) and Rhys Surprenant (182) also won their matches.   

    • Griswold/Wheeler beat Montville 54-24 on Wednesday in an ECC Division III match. Seth Christie (106), Caleb Christie (113), Aiden Christie (145) and Liam Gervais (145) had pins for Griswold (2-3, 1-1) and teammate Skyler Wilson (132) also picked up a win. Luke Chapman (120), Blake Chapman (138) and Raphael Vogt (195) had pins for Montville (0-4, 0-2).

    Women's basketball

    • Fisher beat Mitchell College 76-74. Amina Wiley scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds for Mitchell (7-8) while Dede Stevenson had 13 points and eight rebounds and Sam McKenna scored 12. Misha O'Neal led Fisher with 23 points.

    H.S. girls' basketball

    • Mariette El Khoury made seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points with four rebounds as Fitch beat Montville 70-37 on Wednesday night for its fifth straight win. Rita Sefransky had 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals for Fitch (7-3) and DreAna Singleton had eight points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals. Maya Hillman had 15 points for Montville (6-7) and Jada Cheung scored 11.

    • Jami Sacco made five 3-pointers and scored 25 points in Westbrook's 53-25 win over Norwich Tech on Wednesday night. Ashlyn Bill scored nine and Kaylee Gray eight points for the Warriors (2-9).

    H.S. boys' basketball

    • Cody Murphy scored 20 points as Ellington downed Lyman Memorial 64-48 on Wednesday night. Jaiden Lopez scored 15, Jordan Chandler scored 13 and Bennett Murphy scored eight for the Bulldogs (1-9).

    H.S. hockey

    • Colin Bunkley and Kevin Yang both scored in the first period of the Eastern Connecticut Eagles' 2-1 win over Tri-Town on Wednesday night. Cam McCollum had 18 saves for the Eagles (4-5) and Drew Sager added an assist.

    Men's basketball

    • Jacob Morales led four Springfield players in double figures with 18 points as the Pride beat Coast Guard 78-69 in Wednesday night's New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference game. Tyler Perez had 10 points and six rebounds, Cameron Brown had seven points and 11 rebounds and Declan Rooney scored 14 for the Bears (3-10, 0-4).

    H.S. riflery

    • Grasso Tech remained unbeaten with a 833-656 win over Wilcox Tech on Jan. 12. Reece Guillet and Juliana Walker each had 171s for the Eagles (3-0) while Orin Dube (168), Abigail Nadeua (163) and Elora Loos (160) also contrubuted to the win.
