    Local roundup: CHSCA announces winter All-State teams

    The Connecticut High School Coaches Association has announced its All-State teams for winter sports.

    Boys’ indoor track and field: Ryan Gruzka (Class S, 1,000, 4x800), Joshua Mooney (Class S, 55 hurdles) and Oliver Cooke, Jason Morse and Ryan Orr (Class S, 4x800), Stonington.

    Boys’ swimming: Ben Chidley, Jacob Lin, Julian Mileski, Matthew Nowak Michael Urgo (Class L), Fitch; Ken Chen, Brendan Fant, Ryan Huang and Eric Wang (Class M), East Lyme; Ian Gonzalez and Jaime Nygaard (Class S), St. Bernard.

    Girls’ basketball: Nalyce Dudley (Class LL), New London; Milena Walker (Class MM), Waterford; Natalyah Williams (Class MM), Ledyard; Marissa Nudd (Class M), Bacon Academy.

    Girls’ indoor track and field: Savannah Soleau (Class L shot put), East Lyme; Kate Littler (Class M, 600 and 4x800 relay), Victoria Schweitzer, Ella Stephenson and Avery Widlicka (Class M, 4x800), Ledyard; Nancy Inthasit (Class S, 55 meters and sprint medley relay) and Hannah Andersen, Helena Hoinsky and Iliana Rashlieigh (Class S, sprint medley relay), Stonington.

    Hockey: Anthony Gesino (Division II, second team), Eastern Connecticut Eagles. 

    Women's lacrosse

    • Emily Yorn scored six goals as Connecticut College beat Eastern Connecticut State 18-6. Greta Panke had three goals and four assists and Aine Downey scored three goals for Conn (5-3). Caroline Stent scored twice for ECSU (4-2).

    • Kate Shaffer scored five goals and had two assists as No. 21 UConn beat Columbia 20-8. Sydney Watson and Susan Lafountain had three goals and an assist each for the Huskies (9-1).

    • Gabrielle Nicolosi had seven goals and six assists as Maritime, N.Y. downed Mitchell on Tuesday, 22-2. Jessica Krupnikoff and Danielle Holland both scored for Mitchell (1-6).

    College baseball

    • Tyler Daly pitcher five strong innings for the win as Mitchell College beat Anna Maria 4-2. Daly (2-0) allowed one run and struck out a career-high seven. Kenny Heon of Montville struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Mitchell (15-6) only had three hits but capitalized on seven errors and five walks by Anna Maria. Lelo Martinez of New London and Owen Robbins of Salem had RBI singles for the Mariners.

    College softball

    • Mitchell College swept a doubleheader from Nichols, winning the opener 4-3 and the second game 5-3. Gemma Landry had three hits in Game 1, including her third homer in the last five days. In Game 2, Emma LaBreck had three hits and Jenna Bennett and Brooke Whitmarsh had two hits each for Mitchell (10-6).

    • UConn lost to Boston University 5-2. Aziah James had two hits and Erika Coreth hit a solo homer run for the Huskies (18-12).

    Men's lacrosse

    • Connor McCulloch scored six goals as Trinity beat Coast Guard 17-11. Waterford's Caleb Holdridge scored four goals, Nate Gee had two goals and two assists and Ian Feely scored twice for Coast Guard (5-5).
