Montville's Michon named Most Outstanding Player as ECSU softball advances

Union, N.J. — Montville's Alexis Michon played a pivotal role as Eastern Connecticut State University won three straight games out of the losers' bracket to beat host Kean University 8-0 in six innings in the title game of the NCAA Division III softball Union Regional on Monday morning.

Michon, a sophomore, was named Outstanding Player after allowing just four hits over 16.2 innings with an ERA of 0.84 while going 6-for-11 at the plate with four runs scored.

She pitched in all five games in the regional, three in relief, and was credited with the win in Monday's title game by allowing just one hit over three innings. She also had a pair of hits, including a two-run double that was part of a four-run first inning for the Warriors.

Michon was joined on the all-tournament team by former Fitch great Cassie Woods. Woods battled .550 (11-for-20) with four runs, two RBI and three stolen bases.

The Warriors (41-5), who are ranked third nationally, will host a best-of-three Super Regional series against Randolph-Macon College (35-9) of Virginia at Clyde Washburne Field. Game 1 is Friday at 2 p.m., Game 2 is Saturday at noon, if a decisive third game is necessary it will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the Division III World Series from May 26-31 in Salem, Va.
