    Local roundup: Ferrer homers but Schooners lose

    White River Junction, Vt. —The Mystic Schooners lost to the Upper Valley Nighthawks 10-1 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Friday night.

    Former Stonington standout Kevin Ferrer (UConn) homered in the top of the second for the Schooners (6-6).

    • The Norwich Sea Unicorns were held to five hits in a 4-0 loss to the Brockton Rox in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League game. Cameron Maldonado (Northeastern) had two hits for Norwich (12-14). Jack Kabel (Nichols) pitched six strong innings for the Sea Unicorns, allowing three hits and no runs with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

    • The Padres beat the Tropics 8-3 in an Eastern Connecticut Major League game on Thursday night. Robbie DelaCruz had two hits, Eric Ladd doubled and drove in two runs and Brandon Valentin had two RBI for the Padres and Brenden Cavaco was the winning pitcher. Brady Sheffield and Sam Richardson each had a single and a double for the Tropics.

    American Legion Zone VI

    • Jason Wedge walked with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie and Norwich went on to defeat Moosup 9-6 in a Zone VI game on Thurday night. Wedge and Jake Savage, who had an RBI single in the fourth, had two hits apiece for Norwich (4-2) and Ty Pomroy was the winning pitcher in relief.

    District 10 softball (10-12)

    • Peyton Swanson struck out eight as she pitched East Lyme to a 10-0 win over Ledyard. Nora Blette was 3-for-3 and Kinzie Donohue tripled for East Lyme. Hailey Evans pitched a complete game for Ledyard.
