Rep. Maynard re-elected after injury
Despite being seriously injured and hospitalized since a fall at his Stonington home in July, four-term incumbent state Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-18th District, was easily re-elected to a fifth term in November.
His family declined requests by The Day in the months leading up to the election to interview him and the doctors and therapists treating him at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.
His family last issued a statement about his condition Oct. 14 when it said it was "optimistic about his ability for a full recovery" and believed he would be ready to serve when the session begins.
Legislators are scheduled to be sworn in Jan. 7 in Hartford.
