Among those receiving funding were A. A. Young Jr. Hose and Ladder Company in Jewett City: $1,100 to purchase a G-450 multi-gas detector, and Preston City Volunteer Fire Department and Poquetanuck Volunteer Fire Department in Preston, $1,250 each for new feedback-capable CPR training mannequins.

Emergency groups in Wauregan, Oneco, Sterling, Central Village, Pomfret, Moosup, Plainfield and Voluntown also won support from the foundation. In the past year, the foundation has awarded more than $60,000 to help 38 local nonprofits.
