Nick Woviotis Memorial Scholarship: 2015 award winners honored
The 31st Annual Scholarship Awards in memory of Nicholas Woviotis, were presented at a dinner held at the Italian Dramatic Club on May 29.
The 2015 winners were J. Hunter Roman of New London High School who will be attending Yale University and Thomas Sutera of Waterford High School who will be attending Sienna College. Each winner received a $2,500.00 scholarship award.
In addition, others who are continuing their college education: Riley Dimmock of Waterford High School; Grant Pezzolesi of New London High School; Jose Garcia of New London High School; and Christopher C. Hersom Jr. of Waterford High School, each received a $1,000.00 award which is paid each year as they continue with their college education.
Michael Patrick Doherty, the 2011 recipient of the award, graduated from the University of Connecticut and received a gold watch donated by Mallove's Jewelers.
Over the 31 years, scholarships of over $200,000.00 have been granted and all but two of the prior recipients have completed their college education and received degrees.
