Make A Difference: Westerly Area Rest Meals

Who: Susan and Peter and their two young children: a 3-year-old boy and 18-month-old girl.

Agency: WARM Center, 56 Spruce St., Westerly, a comprehensive social services agency that provides an emergency shelter for the homeless and other services for those in need in southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut.

The situation: The coronavirus pandemic cost the couple their jobs, home and access to child care. They were awarded a housing voucher for a three-bedroom apartment but there were no affordable apartments to be found. They stayed with extended family for as long as they could, but finally had no choice but to enter the emergency shelter system. Through the WARM Center, the family has found shelter. Peter has started a new job, and Susan hopes to find employment soon.

To donate: Call (401) 596-9276, email info@warmshelter.org or donate at the WARM Center website, warmcenter.org.
