A close friend of the teenager who died after a skateboarding accident left him with a traumatic brain injury is selling silicone bracelets to benefit his friend’s family.

St. Bernard School freshman Samuel Rutty said he became friends with 14-year-old Conor Irwin in sixth grade, when they both were at St. Bernard’s.

Irwin was in the midst of his freshman year at Ledyard High School when he tumbled from his longboard skateboard Nov. 25, severely damaging his brain.

He died at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford on Dec. 5.

Rutty said he came up with the idea of bracelets because people who want to remember Irwin will just need to look at their wrists to do so.

The bracelets are green — a color associated with traumatic brain injury awareness and support — and read “Never Forget Conor Irwin” on one side and “2002-2016” on the other.

Proceeds from the $4 bands will help the Irwins cover funeral costs. The bracelets can be picked up at the St. Bernard and Ledyard high schools.

Anyone who is interested in purchasing a bracelet or has other questions is asked to send an email to conorirwinmemorial@gmail.com.
