MGM Springfield slots were up in January
MGM Springfield’s slot-machine revenue was up 14% in January compared to the same month a year ago, according to figures released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
The western Massachusetts casino “won,” or kept, $14.9 million after paying out slots prizes. It kept another $5.7 million in table-games revenue, a 14% decrease compared with January 2019.
MGM Springfield’s total gaming revenue for the month was $20.6 million, a year-over-year increase of 4.6%.
Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Mass., kept $24.2 million in slots revenue in January, the most it's kept in any of its seven full months of operation. Encore kept $24.4 million in table-games revenue, considerably less than the month before, bringing its total gaming revenue to $48.6 million.
In Connecticut, Foxwoods Resorts Casino and Mohegan Sun last week reported year-over-year increases in their January slots revenues. They do not report tables-games revenue on a monthly basis.
MGM Springfield fell well short of revenue projections in 2019, its first full year of operation, Jim Murren, MGM Resorts International’s chairman and chief executive officer, acknowledged last week during a conference call with investors.
The company announced Murren will step down before the end of his contract, which expires in 2021.
