Flax elected executive director of Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce

Mystic — Bruce Flax, a former Groton Town mayor and councilor and a 26-year employee of Foxwoods Resort Casino, has been elected executive director of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce.

Flax, who had been serving as interim executive director since December, had been chairman of the chamber’s board of directors, which elected him executive director Tuesday.

Most recently, Flax was Foxwoods’ director of entertainment marketing and ticket operations, managing marketing for more than 200 shows annually.

“We were fortunate to interview many qualified applicants for the position of executive director and found Bruce’s enthusiasm for the goals set by the board, together with his passion for making meaningful member-to-member connections, the right combination to move the chamber forward,” Shannon McKenzie, interim chairwoman of the board, said in a statement.

“I look forward to meeting with all of our members and creating connections and business opportunities to help them grow and succeed,” Flax said. “With (COVID-19) vaccine levels on the rise, we see a light at the end of the tunnel. Our recent Mystic Restaurant Week was a tremendous success with a record number of restaurants involved and an outpouring of support from our locals.”

Peggy Roberts resigned as president of the chamber in November.
