Katherine Mercedes Cook Weds Lt. Bradley Robert DeWees

Katherine Mercedes Cook of Old Saybrook wed Lt. Bradley Robert DeWees of Farmington, New Mexico, on July 14, 2012 at the Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The couple met early in 2010 in Washington, D.C., when the groom, a 2009 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, was studying for a master’s in public policy at the University of Maryland.  Needing a change of scene from his apartment, the groom sought out a place to read that offered free Wi-Fi and tasty mochas.

The bride received her undergraduate degrees in 2006 from the University of Colorado and her master’s degree in security policy studies from George Washington University in 2009. While waiting on the government hiring process before she could begin her job as a civilian analyst with the U.S. Navy, she took a job as a barista in a coffee shop in Alexandria, Virginia. The coffee shop had free Wi-Fi, and apparently the bride makes tasty mochas.

Following a honeymoon in Belize, the bride and groom are now living in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where the groom is assigned to the 14th Air Support Operations Squadron at Pope AFB, providing support to the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg. The bride is continuing her work as an analyst for the U.S. Army.

The bride and groom expect to deploy separately to overseas locations sometime in 2013.
