Penn State research lab participates in technology exchange with submarines

Groton — The director and associate directors of the Applied Research Laboratory at Pennsylvania State University participated in a technology exchange with submariners stationed at the Naval Submarine Base July 17.

Jim Galambos, who specializes in large diameter unmanned underwater vehicles at the lab, discussed the latest developments in undersea vehicles and weapons.

“I think it is mutually beneficial for us as developers to gain a mutual appreciation and understanding of the operators’ viewpoint, as well as, the operators’ ability to gain an appreciation of what technology is being developed,” he said.

The researchers met with Rear Adm. Richard Breckenridge, commander of Submarine Group Two. Breckenridge said the visit “helps keep the edge of our undersea warfare superiority razor sharp.”
