    Active-duty and retired sailors recognized

    Groton — Active-duty and retired sailors and Navy civilians assigned to the Naval Submarine Support Facility were recognized by the American Cancer Society for their support of the annual Relay For Life, Aug. 31.

    NSSF sailors participated for a second time in the New London County Shoreline Relay For Life event, which was held at the Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in June. They raised more than $3,500 to support services for cancer patients and walked 116.25 miles as a team. They came in third in both the number of laps walked and fundraising.

    Machinist’s Mate First Class Scott Martin, the team captain, Machinist’s Mate First Class Stuart Miller, Electronics Technician First Class Dirk Smith, NSSF Command Master Chief Rory Wohlgemuth, retired Command Master Chief Mark Mandile, Julie Mandile, Pamela Kopp, Adam Slack and Ava Slack participated in the relay.
